Presutto stars continue to shine as Puleio opens up on Grey Areas

Prominent owner and breeder Darren Puleio has provided an insight into some of the sport’s biggest stars during an appearance on the latest episode of the Grey Areas podcast.

Puleio, who races several headline greyhounds with trainer Peter Presutto, spoke candidly about champion stayer Without A Trace and her recent form heading into another Group 1 assignment.

The three-time Group 1 winner returned to winning form in the heats of the Group 1 Sandown Cup despite facing pressure throughout the run.

“I think she still has the ability to go as good as what she’s gone,” Puleio said.

“For her to run home the way she did the other night was enormous.”

Without A Trace (1) was enormous in Thursday night’s heats of the Group 1 Sandown Cup.

Puleio also highlighted the rise of On The Prowl following his impressive 29.17 second victory and praised sire Hooked On Scotch, who continues to produce elite-level performers across the country.

“I think he’s always thrown dogs with a bit of X-factor,” Puleio said.

“At the moment he’s going through a purple patch and he’s got quality dogs coming through.”

While there was plenty of excitement around the Presutto kennel, Puleio admitted there were concerns surrounding superstar sprinter Off The Chart after his disappointing Harrison-Dawson heat performance.

“He’s pulled up pretty stiff this morning and he’s not walking right,” Puleio said.

“There’s something gone amiss, we’re just not sure what that is yet.”

Trainer Peter Presutto said Off The Chart will see a vet shortly to determine the issue, but he believes it is nothing too serious.

Puleio and Presutto will team up for a crack at all three Group 1’s on Friday night at Sandown Park.
