Last week, respected Killarney greyhound trainer, owner and breeder Kevin Mugavin passed away suddenly at 62 years of age.
Leaving behind his partner – Fleur.
Kevin was a highly regarded figure in the greyhound industry and was associated with a long list of quality performers throughout his career.
Among them was Golden Currency, who was part of the memorable dead heat in the 1993 Topgun – a moment that remains etched in greyhound racing history.
He bred and trained the dominant stayer Modern Express in the early 1990s, a greyhound who went on to make a significant impact on the track.
Kevin went onto bred Poetic Reward who had staying success in the late 90’s, early 2000s.
Golden Currency, Modern Express and Poetic Reward later enjoyed successful careers at stud, further cementing Kevin’s legacy within the sport.
Away from the track, Kevin balanced his passion for greyhound racing with running a beef farm, continuing to train and care for his dogs right up until his passing.
Funeral details will be provided when available.
