Greyhound Racing Victoria hosted MPs, industry representatives and club staff at Parliament Gardens on Wednesday night night to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) and recognise the people and programs behind Victorian greyhound racing.
GRV Chair Tom Salom reflected on GAP’s evolution over three decades, noting that around 20,000 greyhounds have been rehomed into Victorian families. He highlighted the importance of stable funding through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund (VRIF), ongoing investment in welfare, and the significant economic and community contribution of the sport.
“Thirty years ago, GAP set a new standard,” Salom said.
“Today, it remains proof that when regulation is strong, funding is fit for purpose, and outcomes are measured, animal welfare improves.
“That is a record worth recognising — and a model worth sustaining.”
Guests also enjoyed the premiere of GRV’s new legacy video, showcasing the full journey of the Victorian greyhound — from early care, to racing, to life after the track.
