Victoria took on the Q

Victorians stamped their authority on Q2 Parklands last night in Queensland with five winners on the 12-race program.

Anthony Azzopardi’s Gold Scotch kicked off Victoria’s winning ways with an all the way victory in the Tempest (600 metres). Kennelmate Gambella put in a big last to third performance.

Sandown Cup winner and Tasmanian, Raider’s Guide was too good for Team Dailly’s Ethanol Water in the invitational Super Stayers (710 metres). Isn’t it nice watching Ethanol Water glide through a field!

It was the Brisbane Cup Preludes that really saw us stand out. Last year’s Brisbane Cup winner Flying Zulu told everyone he was back in a big way, running down Boracay Storm with ease in a time of 29.97 seconds. Lakeview Emily chased onto finish third.

Excavation continued the Team Thompson winning tally, eyeing off the Anthony Azzopardi trained Inconspicuous who lead in the early stages. Morton put in a huge performance to finish second, with Inconspicuous holding onto third. Excavation stopped the clock in a time of 29.82 seconds.

But Brisbane Cup Prelude 3 was where the magic happened. Tim Zoo (29.21 seconds) unleased pure speed and strength with a run less than a length outside of the 520-metre track record. Mepunga Reward put in another eye-catching run to finish second in a time of 29.70 seconds – faster than the first two preludes. Dr. Asher for Harley Whelan finished third.

There is one thing for sure… next Thursday nights Brisbane Cup heats at Q2 Parklands will be special.
