Photographer doing it for the kids

Ballarat local Peter Morganti turned 60 this year, and with that came a desire to improve his health and fitness.

A greyhound racetrack photographer by trade, Morganti decided to not only help himself but help raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

“It is the 94th edition of the Good Friday Appeal and I have decided to walk 94 laps of the Ballarat Greyhound Racing track to raise money,” Peter Morganti said.

A lap around the Ballarat track is around 750 metres, and Morganti has been walking six to seven laps each race meeting between races. With 89 laps already under his belt, the final five will be completed by Wednesday 16 April.

“So far, I have lost eight kilos,” Morganti said.

“I’ve got the drive to do it for the kids in the Royal Children’s Hospital who are an inspiration.”

Morganti is no stranger to raising funds for the Good Friday Appeal, over the past few years he has found many ways to raise funds through his photography work.

Greyhound trainers throughout Victoria have thrown money behind Morganti’s track walking efforts, pledging their support financially.

“Jason and Seona Thompson, Greg and Billy McRae, Michael and Debbie Bewley, Gary and Sue Mannion and Wayne Gray, Jimmy Holt, Katrina Evans  and Mark and Lisa Delbridge have all sponsored me.”

Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club general manager Jodie Faralla said Morganti’s dedication to the cause was to be admired.

“I am proud of Peter and his efforts and very grateful for his commitment to raising money on behalf of the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club for the Royal Children’s Hospital,” Faralla said.

Morganti and the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club are just one part of the Victorian greyhound racing industries continued fund raising support of the Good Friday Appeal.

Greyhound Racing Victoria has raised more than $367,000 for the Good Friday Appeal in previous years. This year, Greyhound Racing Victoria and their 11 active race clubs are pledging to raise $56,000.

Sportsbet is also supporting fundraising efforts, covering the $100 adoption fee for every Victorian greyhound rehomed through the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) during April’s National Adoption Month donated to the appeal.
