Farrugia tackles week one of the Australian Cup Carnival

Week one of the Australian Cup Carnival is almost here! Tomorrow night, The Meadows play host to the Group 1 Temlee (525 metres) and Zoom Top (730 metres) served in between eight heats of the Australian Cup.

And what better way to tackle the card of quality races than with inform greyhound expert George Farrugia.

Before George sinks his teeth into the Group 1 invitational selections, he wants to drill into the Australian Cup heats.

Field Day (Race 6 Box 4) could really do some damage in the Australian Cup series as a whole,” George Farrugia said.

One of six runners for Jason Thompson, Field Day has won three races from box four in his 27-start career.

“The reserves for the Temlee in Morton and Schillaci should also be big players,” Farrugia said.

Morton is the first reserves for the Temlee. If he doesn’t get a run in the Group 1 invitational, he will work his way through the Australian Cup series in heat three (race 4 box 2).

“He has been out for a while, but I am sure connections are keen to get him up and about during this carnival.”

Schillaci is the second reserve for the Temlee. If he misses out on a rug in the invitational, he will line up in heat 7 of the Australian Cup (race 9 box 4).

And now time for some value. Keeping in mind George went three from three at The Meadows last week. If you aren’t a listener of RSN’s Grey Area’s, you’re missing out.

“I see Zipping Minaj (race 7 box 6) is the value on the card,” Farrugia said.

“She opened up around the $10 mark and is usually a good beginner. It’s a tough ask, especially coming up against the likes of Big Energy and Dutch Riot but she is racing consistently.”

And in the Group 1’s Farrugia is of the belief that the markets have it right.

“In the Temlee its Flying Zulu for me… I think he has peaked at the right time, and he has got his box.”

The Group 1 Temlee is race 10 on the card at The Meadows and is set to jump at 9.51pm. Flying Zulu will jump from box 1.

“For a long time, we have been working out who the best stayer in the country is. And I think that Ethanol Water has stamped herself as the best.”

“She is drawn really well, and I find it hard to go past a greyhound in form and beginning well.”

The Group 1 Zoom Top is race 8 on the card and will jump at 9.09pm. Ethanol Water will also jump from box 1.
