Sergeant Top dog in Video Cup

Victorian Stayer of the year, Drill Sergeant, added the Listed Topcat Video Cup to his achievements tonight at The Meadows.

Leading from start to finish in what race caller James Van de Maat described as a ‘tradesman like performance’, Drill Sergeant held off second elect Aunt Virginia.

Stopping the clock in a slick 42.55 seconds, Drill Sergeant shaved 0.02seconds off his personal best over the 730 metres at The Meadows.

“He’s a ripper – the best dog I have had in the sport,” trainer Shane Drummond told Corey Smith after the race.

“He’s a soldier and loves coming to The Meadows.”

Drill Sergeant qualified for the Topcat Video Cup last weekend after running second to pre-race favourite, Mepunga Surprise, who finished 7th.
