Metro clubs at centre of timeslot changes

The Meadows will continue racing on Wednesday nights until at least the end of June.

GRV and the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA) have confirmed, following a successful pilot of The Meadows Wednesday race meetings (MEP) being held during the ‘Night’ timeslot, the scheduling will continue for the remainder of the 2023/24 racing season.

During the trial period, there was an increase in average nominations and starters, whilst turnover remained consistent during a challenging wagering period. From the club’s perspective, on course patronage and hospitality increased significantly.

A further trial will take place during the months of May, June and July 2024, which involves Sandown Park (SAP) race meetings being held on Monday nights instead of the regular Sunday ‘Day’ timeslot.

Currently all three race meetings held on Sundays are conducted east of Melbourne, and the change will hopefully create more opportunities for more trainers on weekends.

To facilitate the trial, Ballarat’s Tier 3 meeting will be held on Sundays and Shepparton will race during the ‘Day’ slot on Mondays.

During the pilot, race meetings held during the Ballarat Cup and Sandown Cup periods may change.

A review of key metrics will take place towards the end of the trial.
