Professor head of Classic class

Steve White has extra motivation in wanting exciting former Queenslander Professor Snitch to maintain her unbeaten record in Victoria in Sunday night’s $10,665 Warragul Breeders Classic Final (460m).

White trained both Professor Snitch’s parents; boom sire and triple Group 1 winner Sennachie, which the astute Buln Buln East mentor stands at stud, and Fabwik, also a G1 finalist.

Professor Snitch, which was bred by Kirin Corby, who also raced Sennachie, started her career in Queensland, winning two of her first three starts – a whopping 12-length maiden victory at Ipswich in class record time (24.67sec) and a 520m success at Albion Park.

She then relocated to Victoria, along with litter brother Professor Sirius, and has been ultra-impressive in winning her two Victorian starts.

“It won’t worry me if she gets beaten because we know what’s in the tank.”

First-up, she was an eight-length winner over 395m at Traralgon (22.04sec), before producing the standout performance in last Sunday’s Breeders Classic heats, clocking a Best Of Night 25.49sec, her fourth win from five starts.

“Professor Snitch and her brother came down for the Launching Pad, but they had an injury or two,” White explained.

“She has a lot of ability, but Professor Sirius is a work in progress.

“So far, so good with Professor Snitch and she’ll definitely run 500m. She won over ‘500’ at Albion Park off a very light preparation before I got her.

“She ran home in 14.25sec in her heat last weekend and if you can break 14.40sec at Warragul you’ll get ‘500’ because it’s the hardest 460m in the state.”

Professor Snitch has drawn box seven for the Breeders Classic decider (race 5, 6.31pm), while Professor Sirius, winner of two from three, will make his Victorian debut in the previous event.

“I’m a bit worried about ‘the eight’ (Willow Road) in the final, it’s got a lot of pace, so Professor Snitch will want to do everything right,” White said.

“She needs to get the start right and not have any bad luck. But it won’t worry me if she gets beaten because we know what’s in the tank.”

Professor Snitch is another success story for Sennachie, who has already produced the likes of Albion Park 520m record holder and G2 Queensland Derby winner Jay Is Jay.

“Sennachie’s flying,” White said.

“His record speaks for itself. He’s getting plenty of winners, including track record breakers and Group winners.

“I’ve also got Paua Of Buddy at stud. He’s a son of Aston Dee Bee, who’s not available anymore.

“Professor Snitch’s mother, Fabwik, was a good bitch. She ran 29.67sec at The Meadows, was second in (G3) The Ambrosoli up in Sydney, and started favourite off ‘the red’ in the Adelaide Cup Final.”

White will be back at Warragul on Tuesday night with brilliant speedster Not For Profit, winner of 16 from 21, contesting a Grade 5 final over 460m (race 7, 8.57pm), before embarking on an interstate campaign.

“He’s electric!” said White.

“I’m sending him up to Mick Zammit for the Thunderbolt at Grafton, and then he’ll go down to ‘Jonesy’ (David Jones) for the Southern Stars. After that he’ll come back for the Healesville and Bendigo Cups.”
