GRV advice on the exportation of greyhounds

GRV’s Integrity Unit (GRIU) has been made aware of person/s contacting GRV registered participants, via phone call, SMS and across social media enquiring about the purchase of greyhounds for export to China.

GRV strongly opposes the export of Australian greyhounds to any country that does not have strong animal welfare controls and greyhound racing regulations in place.

Under Greyhounds Australasia (GA) rule 44 (1) any person exporting a greyhound(s) to another country must, prior to meeting the requirements of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, obtain a Greyhound Passport from GA.

GA Greyhound Passports will not be issued for exporters of greyhounds to countries that don’t meet such standards. China is one of those destinations for which a GA Passport will not be issued.

Participants who are contacted by such persons or have information about this are urged to advise the GRIU via email – [email protected] or call 1300 856 109 immediately.
