GRV’s Gerard Guthrie and Trent Langskaill provide their thoughts on some of the star greyhounds racing in Victoria.
Keep an eye on these, they are worth saving in your WatchDog Blackbook!
Gerard Trent, it is a busy time for Victorian-trained greyhounds with feature racing in the Garden State along with heats and finals of big races in New South Wales.
Trent You’re spot on, Gerard, and let’s start with Friday night’s heats of the Group 2 Horsham Cup. Stealth, Jungle Panther and Big Opal Rocks; what a great first heat.
Gerard The second heat is just as competitive, Trent. He’s No Slouch, Call Me Marley and Yahiro Bale feature, while 110-start campaigner Tiger Time is eyeing four straight wins.
Trent The third heat has plenty of chances as well. Promising chasers Aston Lira, Amlin Emperor and Die Hard, plus the experienced Zara’s Ivan, face the Australian Cup runner-up Baby Jaycee.
Gerard I spoke to trainer Bob Douglas about Baby Jaycee and even though Box 5 could be tricky, he is hopeful that her class will see her prevail.
Trent How good is the fourth heat? Panadero Warrior returns from his Bulli Gold Cup success, Money Owes is Group placed, and Matt’s Hope has won 11 of his last 13 races.
Gerard Saturday night at Shepparton features Rejuvenate in the Shepparton Classic Final, but he is against classy rivals including his litter brother Hot Scotch, plus Lawless and Tinker Norm.
Trent Aston Honey and One More Burn won their heats of the Shepparton Matchmakers, but don’t forget Spaghetti Legs; a dead-heat winner of the Western Districts Oaks with Baby Jaycee.
Gerard Rob Camilleri would not swap Xoie Bale for any other greyhound in Friday night’s Group 2 Richmond Oaks Final. Anthony Azzopardi has Adhana Rico in the Group 2 Richmond Derby Final.
Trent Dookie Devil and Jackpot Joan (Temora today), Jarick Bale (Dapto tonight), Valor Bale (Richmond on Friday night), Ailee Bale, Black Sail, Zoha Bale and Under Arrest (Dubbo on Saturday night) are all contesting heats of the Country Classic.
