Being named Victorian Stayer of the Year is reward for consistency for dual Group 1 winner Jarick Bale.

Trained by Mark Delbridge and raced by Jan Wheeler, wife of industry icon Paul Wheeler, who sadly passed away in October last year, Jarick Bale competed at elite level throughout the course of the racing year, finishing unplaced in only ten of his 41 starts, winning on 17 occasions.

His first success at G1 level came in the Sale Cup (650m), which was followed by the Rookie Rebel invitational (600m) on the opening night of the Australian Cup Carnival.

He came within one length of adding a third G1 title to his resume when runner-up in the Sandown Cup (715m), Australia’s most prestigious staying event.

Jarick Bale was especially effective over middle distances, winning the Listed Maidment Memorial, and being placed in the McKenna and Sir John Dillon Memorial events, the three prestigious events all held over Sandown’s 595m course.

Mepunga Ruby and Untapped were nominated by the Victorian Greyhound of the Year Panel as Stayer of the Year finalists.
