Vale Ray Gunston

GRV expresses its condolences to the family of Ray Gunston, who has sadly passed away.

Ray joined GRV as CEO in 2016 and, although only involved in greyhound racing for a relatively short period, he had a significant impact on our sport.

Ray passed away suddenly after suffering a heart attack at the age of 64.

Tributes have flowed in for Ray, who was highly regarded for his administrative expertise, particularly from the AFL community.

“Ray was an extremely valued member of the AFL Executive in the time he worked at AFL House, with both his ability to lead and complete major projects, and for his strong values and ethical framework in how he conducted himself,” said AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan.

In addition to his positions with AFL and GRV, Ray also held roles with Tatts Group, Westpac, Price Waterhouse, Aluminium Smelters of Victoria, Southern Cross Austereo and the Victorian Government.

Racing was one of Ray’s great passions and he was a part-owner of this year’s Golden Slipper winner, Fireburn.

He is survived by wife Mandy, son Jack, a three-time Hawthorn premiership player, daughter Kate and granddaughter Scarlett.
