Duncan good ‘mates’ with Cynthia

Greyhounds take a liking to a particular track for any number of reasons but it appears the secret to Healesville specialist Duncan’s affinity with the straight track venue is out.

The Julie Grindley-trained sprinter, who chalked up his 16th career victory – all have come at Healesville – on Sunday afternoon, has developed a special bond with General Manager Cynthia O’Brien, as demonstrated in the video below captured by race caller, Victoria Shaw.

It’s part of Duncan’s race day routine to make a detour into the office upon arrival at Healesville for a pat and words of encouragement from Cynthia, which it seems could be the key to his exceptional Healesville record of 12 wins from 19 starts over 300m and a further four victories over 350m.

“I think it could be. If he doesn’t come into the office on the way in things don’t go right,” O’Brien laughed.

“I just hope he gets it (Cynthia’s attention) all the time because I think it helps,” echoed Grindley.
