In preparation for the 2021 TAB Phoenix, Aston Rupee unofficially broke Ballarat’s 390m track record by a length last night.

Rupee stopped the clock in a sleek 21.54sec in the trial following the last race.

Bareki’s 21.61sec record still officially stands.

“He pulled up a treat this morning after the trial,” trainer Glenn Rounds said.

“A trial at Shepparton on Monday will round out Rupee’s preparation for the Phoenix.”

Aston Rupee was Ray Borda’s slot pick in the $1.1 million dollar event.

The box draw for the TAB Phoenix will be conducted live on 7two during Thrill Of The Chase at a special time of 2pm.

“We will be looking to pick a box as close the fence as possible. That is where you want to be at The Meadows.”
