How to spend $20 on the TAB Great Chase Grand Final

Form analyst The Watchdog is tipping inside boxes will prove decisive in Wednesday afternoon’s $67,000 Group 3 TAB Great Chase final (525m) at The Meadows.

In what shapes as an extremely even and highly competitive event, first reserve Revolution is TAB’s favourite at $3.50, with Indy Fido (Box 1) at $3.80 and Idolize (Box 6) at $3.90 the most fancied of the certain starters.

Both were all-the-way semi-final winners at The Meadows last Wednesday, with Andrea Dailly’s Indy Fido clocking 30.02sec and Idolize, trained by Peter Presutto, running 30.08sec and The Watchdog believes their early speed duel holds the key to the $47,000 to-the-winner final.

“I think from last week’s semis, Indy Fido’s 5 ‘flat’ will hold up and he’ll hold the lead. I just think Idolize has to lead to win and if she doesn’t cross, the outside division are going to have trouble getting into the race,” The Watchdog said.

The Watchdog says Indy Fido will “take a power of beating” from ‘the rails’ but adds there’s enormous value in Hamillson (Box 2) and Hushing Dusk (Box 3), which won their heats in 30.13sec and 30.46sec respectively.

“Hamillson, I think is tremendous value at $7.50 currently,” said The Watchdog.

“I thought his semi run was super. It was the best semi-final win, in the fact he had to run down Revolution, worked hard mid-race and probably lost a couple of lengths when trying to get around him, so I think he can go a bit faster than 30.13.

“Hushing Dusk had a few things go her way in the run last week to score but she also did find a bit of trouble, so her 30.46sec is obviously a bit faster than that. She might get a nice run through and just for a place at the moment the $8 is well over the odds for mine.”
