Victorian greyhound racing to benefit from landmark US commingling deal

Broadcasting of Australian greyhound races into America is set to become more financially beneficial, thanks to new commingling arrangements brokered by Tabcorp and Sky Racing.

Victorian greyhound races and those from other Australian jurisdictions have been broadcast into North America via Tabcorp’s international broadcasting channel, Sky Racing World, since June last year, and this new arrangement will now see American punters betting directly into Tabcorp’s Australian pools from this week.

According to Tabcorp, the new deal is expected to further enhance the popularity of Australian greyhound racing with North American punters through wider coverage and access to deeper pools.

TAB Managing Director, Wagering and Media, Adam Rytenskild said the initiative was exciting and Sky was looking forward to partnering with GRV and other Australian greyhound racing jurisdictions.

“This will allow us to showcase greyhound racing to the massive North American market and develop new wagering markets with benefits flowing back to the sport and participants,” Mr Rytenskild said.

GRV Chair Peita Duncan, who had a major hand in pioneering initial broadcasting into the US last year, said the new commingling arrangements will create new streams of revenue for greyhound racing in Victoria.

“Victoria produces arguably the highest quality of greyhound racing in the world, and to have our product, along with that of other states, broadcast into a market as big as the US is something we are extremely proud of,” Ms Duncan said.

“The longer term financial benefits of this new deal will help ensure that GRV can continue to support regular increases in participant returns, while also allowing us to continue investing in welfare and integrity and other initiatives to grow the popularity of the sport, which are all integral in securing the future of our industry.”

The new arrangement will cater to the growing appetite for wagering in the US and put the sport of greyhound racing in front of a substantial North American audience in the most advantageous evening timeslot.
