How to spend $20 on the Warrnambool Cup

Form expert The Watchdog is looking for value in Wednesday night’s Group 2 Warrnambool Cup Final (450m), going around odds-on favourite Shima Shine in suggested exotic and multi betting options.

“If he (Shima Shine) steps away it’s just times and margins thanks but I’m not willing to take $1.75 about him because he is a bit hit or miss early,” The Watchdog said.

The Watchdog is tipping Yozo Bale (box 8), trained by Correy Grenfell, to claim a third country cup and first this year after victories at Ballarat and Bendigo in 2020, believing the recent Geelong Cup runner-up has the speed to cross to the front.

“I think the top pick has to go to Yozo Bale. He’s just about foolproof early, he’s racing with tremendous confidence, he’s won two Cups and ran second in the Geelong Cup.

“His 6.48sec sectional from last week would be enough to see him get across and lead and he’s very hard to get past when he’s out on the arm. The $5.50 which is available for him I think is really good value.”

Do It denied Ferdinand Boy a crack at a third country cup crown for the year with a come-from-behind heat victory and after drawing perfectly in box one The Watchdog is including Jeff Britton’s talented speedster in everything.

“He was huge last week. He overcame difficulties in running to run down a really, really good greyhound in Ferdinand Boy. Prior to that he ran 25.50s when lighting up Geelong.

He’s won three of four from the red, everything points to him being a major player.

“You’ve also got to respect Qwara Bale (box 3). She was brilliant last week, she’s a star on the rise and definitely going places.”

The Watchdog is tipping a big night for gun young trainer Correy Grenfell, suggesting recent G1 Perth Cup winner Tiggerlong Tonk is a good thing in the Cup Night Match Race (race 9) and coupling him in multis with kennelmate Yozo Bale and Do It.

“I’m really keen on Tiggerlong Tonk in this,” said The Watchdog.

“Ferdinand Boy was a tad disappointing last week and I think Tiggerlong Tonk’s not going to be too far off him mid-race. I think as they turn for home ‘The Tonk’ will measure up and run past him in the home straight.”

The Watchdog’s $20 spend
$10 Warrnambool Cup Trifecta:
1,3,8/1,2,3,5,8/1,2,3,5,6,8 = 20.83%.
$6 Warrnambool Cup Exacta: 1,3,8/1,2,3,6,8 = (50%).
$2 Multi: Do It (Race 8) into Tiggerlong Tonk (Race 9). Odds: $12.
$2 Multi: Yozo Bale (Race 8) into Tiggerlong Tonk (Race 9). Odds: $11
