Lou’s Lounge: Greyhound racing a family sport

Anyone not convinced that greyhound racing is a family sport need look no further than the Pearcedale property of leading trainer Andrew Paraskevas and partner Jess Litchfield.

Speaking to her mum, GRV’s Louise Martin in the first ever edition on ‘Lou’s Lounge’ aired last Sunday on 7Two’s Thrill of the Chase, mother-of-three Jess revealed how her daughters India and Pippa play a huge role in looking after their greyhound pups right from the outset.

“The girls would help me feed the pups every two hours,” Jess recalled about a litter born in 2019.

“They were out there with the bottles, feeding the pups, cleaning the pups and even feeding the mum. Andrew and I found puppies in their bedroom, hidden under blankets, which was very interesting,” she laughed.

“They also have collars and leads on them I think before any other greyhound pup would have.”

India and Pippa could even be greyhound trainers in the making judging by a particular post on social media.

“I had a Facebook post and Pippa was training the pups,” Jess recalled.

“I think they (the pups) were one month old and she had made a lure herself.”

“She put a bit of string on a stick and made her sister India hold the pups, and then they said ‘ready, set, go,’ and they had to chase the lure.”
