Doctors’ orders

For about six months now Simon Told Helen has been compared to one of the greatest sprinters our sport has ever seen – Fernando Bale.

Both display similar blistering speed which sees them land in front of fields time after time. And both have stamped their mark on group racing throughout Australia.

“He has nothing to prove in his career,” trainer David Burnett said.

“He has won eight Group races so far and I am wrapped to have a dog like him in the kennel.”

Simon Told Helen has drawn box eight and is the $3.30 favourite to win Saturday night’s Group 1 TAB Topgun.

“Box eight should see him motor around the outside of the field and cut down to the fence when he gets out in front,” Burnett said.

Simon Told Helen comes into the Topgun off the back of a second placing to Hard Style Rico on Monday night at The Meadows in the Group 3 Silver Bullet and a Group 2 Geelong Cup victory last month.

“He has proved that he is a very good dog and to beat the Geelong Cup field like he did showed that too.”

Four of the 2020 Geelong Cup field scored invites into the hand-selected Group 1 TAB Topgun field including Simon Told Helen, Shima Shine, Catch The Thief and Tiggerlong Tonk.

A win in the TAB Topgun will see Simon Told Helen’s prize money rise to more than $850,000, etching closer to the magical million-dollar barrier which few greyhounds have done in the past.

Simon Told Helen is owned by the Emma’s Boys Syndicate which is headed by Brian Parsons.

The syndicate was created by Parsons with his doctors following several serious health issues he bravely overcame.

Geelong surgeon Simon Crowley operated on Parsons’ throat cancer in 2002, and after the successful surgery, Parsons proposed they create a greyhound syndicate with his general practitioner Mick Carroll.

As Simon Told Helen’s name suggests, Simon Crowley told his wife Helen about his star greyhound. Well really, Helen worked it out and forced Simon into confession.

Helen Worked It Out doesn’t really have the same ring to it anyway.

The Group 1 Topgun is race eight on Saturday night.
