Sandown Park Friday: Burning questions

It has been 159 days since Ella Enchanted was last victorious, and form expert The Watchdog is predicting her long drought to end tonight at Sandown Park.

Ella Enchanted last saluted back on 17 November, and after being sidelined for several months she is now five starts into her current campaign.

Trained by Jamie Ennis, the consistent Ella Enchanted has recorded minor placings in her four runs since her return, all of which have been at The Meadows.

Last year’s RSN Sandown Cup runner-up has fallen short to the mighty True Detective in her past two outings – both over 600m – and the pair are set to face off again tonight, this time over the staying trip of 715m.

The Watchdog says Ella Enchanted’s time is now.

“Ella Enchanted owns an eye-popping 41.49 PB at Sandown and after four runs back from a spell she should be at peak fitness,” the expert form analyst said.

Here’s what we look forward to learning in this special Friday night edition of greyhound racing at Sandown Park, which kicks off at 7.08pm…

Q. Will ELLA ENCHANTED (Race 4, 8.05pm) finally return to the winner’s list?
It has been almost six months since the brindle flying machine last won a race, but a return to full fitness and to staying ranks might just see her get one back on TRUE DETECTIVE.

WATCH: TRUE DETECTIVE (1) and ELLA ENCHANTED (7) in action last Saturday night.

Q. Will we see witness another eye-catching victory from BANGA (Race 6, 8.50pm)?
Ray Henness’ stayer has won two of his past three starts, coming from the tail of the field to win on both occasions. With 22 starts under his belt (seven wins) and at almost 2.5 years of age, it appears that the best is yet to come for this exciting staying prospect.

WATCH: BANGA (8) comes from a long way back to win at The Meadows last Saturday night.

Q. Will BLACK OPIUM turn the tables on YOU TELL ME (Race 8, 9.32pm)?
BLACK OPIUM went around a short-priced $2.40 favourite at The Meadows last Saturday night, only to miss the start and finish a distance 2nd to YOU TELL ME. However, Jason Thompson’s superstar is unbeaten in four starts from Box 6 and boasts six wins from 10 starts over Sandown’s 515m trip. Australian Cup runner-up HARDAWAY WINNIE will also provide good competition.

WATCH: You Tell Me (5) proves too classy for Black Opium (3) last Saturday night.
