Playing with fire

Weblec Smoke is playing with fire at The Meadows when he lines up in a hot 600 metre event.

TAB have opened Weblec Smoke on the third line of betting at $5 with Australian Cup hero Fernando’s Riot leading the way from box eight at $2.40.

“This week looks a tough race with plenty of speed in the race but saying that I am expecting him to run well,” trainer Matt Lanigan said.

Last week at Sandown, Weblec Smoke made his debut over the middle distance, defeating a handy field by five lengths.

“I was very pleased with his run. It was his first time over the middle distance, and he handled it perfectly.”

Weblec Smoke will jump from box four, for the second time in a row, in race 6 at 8.20pm tomorrow.

“Lucy’s Milo and Barcia Prince look the early leaders and I think Smokey might find it difficult to find the lead from box four. But if he can sit just behind them and have clear running, he is going to be a chance.”

Lanigan is also caution of Sandown 715m track record holder and younger brother to champion stayer Tornado Tears – Here’s Tears.

“I just don’t want Here’s Tears anywhere near us because of how strong he is.”

Here’s Tears is jumping from box seven and is sitting at $5 with TAB.
