SHEPPARTON CUP: Whiskey headlines heats

Champion sprinter Whiskey Riot headlines a cast of sprinting stars who will assemble for six heats of the Group 2 Shepparton Cup (450m), which kick off just after 8pm on Monday.

Trained by Anthony Azzopardi, Whiskey Riot was the greyhound on everyone’s lips during the recent Australian Cup Carnival, winning the G1 Temlee (525m) and an Australian Cup heat prior to finishing third to his litter brother, Fernando’s Riot, in the G1 final.

Late last year, Whiskey Riot also won the G1 Melbourne Cup (515m) at Sandown Park and he’s also finished second in another two G1 finals – the Maturity Classic (525m) at The Meadows and the Adelaide Cup (515m) at Angle Park.

He’ll exit Box 4, from which he’s won on five occasions from seven starts.

Other group racing stars contesting the heats include Hard Style Rico, Crimson Vixen and Snags McKenzie, with the final to be run on Saturday 21 March.
