PERTH CUP: Simple for Simon?

Victorian sprinting superstar Simon Told Helen will be chasing his second Group 1 success, and a $150,000 first prize, in Saturday night’s Perth Cup final (520m) at Cannington.

The catch-me-if-you-can speedster was installed a raging hot $1.70 favourite by tab.com.au after winning a heat last week in equal best time of 29.74sec. He has since drawn favourably in box seven for the final.

But his Little River trainer, David Burnett, says Simon Told Helen was “very lucky to reach the final”.

“He picked a gap in the run to the first turn and just squeezed through… It’s not his box manners, he’s always been slow out of the traps,” Burnett said.

Simon Told Helen, the only Victorian to make the Perth Cup final, bypassed the recent Group 1 Australian Cup series and it may prove a godsend.

Saturday’s Perth Cup is Race 4 at 11.07pm Melbourne time.
