Tornado’s Topgun Stayers?

Champion greyhound Tornado Tears is the one to beat in Saturday night’s $75,000 to-the-winner Topgun Stayers (725m) at The Meadows.

The champion stayer is chasing a fifth Group 1 victory in what will be his 50th race start.

The son of Fernando Bale and Tears Siam has started favourite in his past 37 starts, and it will be no different on Saturday as he has opened up as the punters’ elect at $2.30 after drawing favourably in box two.

“I’m happy with the draw and with his preparation, which includes a recent trial at Geelong where he went pretty well on a wet track,” trainer Robert Britton said.

“Our concern with him lately is his consistency. He is getting older and it’s a high quality field with the likes of Boom Down, who is going really well, and Bago Bye Bye, who also has plenty of ability.”

Tornado Tears has won 29 of his 49 starts and $771,120 in prize money. He has won five from eight out of Box 2.

WATCH: Tornado Tears (1) and Rajasthan (9) played out a fascinating battle in the Speed Star in September. The pair will renew acquaintances once again in the Topgun Stayers.
