THURSDAY THOUGHT – KRAKEN LIGHTNING

Toolleen mentor Rodney Clark should be in for a ‘Kraken’ time at Sandown Park tonight.

Clark has a ‘terrific triumvirate’ engaged on the 12-event fixture, and all three are The Watchdog’s primary selection in their respective races.

First cab off the rank is Kraken Lightning (Race 5, Box 3) in a Grade 5 over 515 metres.

The near-faultless beginner has raced on 59 occasions for 23 wins, 13 seconds and seven thirds. Her Sandown Park record reads five starts for two wins and two thirds, including a flying 29.44sec personal best on June 6 this year.

Twenty-four minutes later, kennelmate Kraken Dust (Race 6, Box 6) lines up in a Mixed 4/5 over 715 metres. A versatile type (with 12 wins, 16 seconds and five thirds from 45 starts), Kraken Dust recently finished a creditable second at his Sandown Park staying debut.

Finally, Head Loch (Race 11, Box 1) contests a Mixed 3/4 over 515 metres. He has notched two wins, three seconds and one third from seven starts over Sandown Park’s sprint trip, including a slick 29.47sec personal best on February 7 this year.

And his record from the coveted ‘red’ alley is exemplary – 10 starts for two wins, two seconds and three thirds. His overall record reads 16 wins, 15 seconds and 10 thirds from 64 starts.

Check out Kraken Lightning’s 29.44sec win (from box one) at Sandown Park on June 6 this year:
