Startron’s time to twinkle?

It was a mixed bag of results in today’s Healesville Cup heats, as we get set for a cracking final next weekend.

Startron, who ran fifth in last year’s Healesville Cup, will be out to make amends on Sunday after a super impressive heat win today in 18.97sec.

The Wayne Vassallo-trained Startron has drawn box one in the final, a draw from which he is unbeaten in two starts.

With prize money increased to $67,000 in Sunday’s final, the quality of entrants for this series was perhaps as strong as we’ve ever seen for a Healesville Cup.

Series favourite Peter Galo missed his place in the final after Friday Frothies won that particular heat at the huge odds of $23.50 in 18.94sec (best).

But the biggest shock of the day came in the sixth and final qualifier, with Sideshow Marjen upsetting superstar duo Dyna Patty and Eye Got It to score at odds of $69.40.

There will be an interstate flavour about the final, with NSW trainer Ron Marsden getting his two contenders – Cee Jay’s Boy and Hardaway Titan – through, the latter after being the second fastest runner-up.

The other heat winners were Emerald Rainbow and So They Say.

Heat winners (fastest to slowest): Friday Frothies (18.94sec); Startron (18.97sec); Cee Jay’s Boy (19.12sec); Sideshow Marjen (19.13sec); So They Say (19.22sec) & Emerald Rainbow (19.27sec).
