The hackneyed phrase “beware of imitations” even applies to greyhound racing.
But there’s nothing fake about the aptly named Often Imitated.
In fact, it’s quite the opposite – there’d be a myriad of trainers delighted to have a speedster of her calibre in their kennel. Yes, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”!
Prepared at Pearcedale by Jacqueline Greenough, Often Imitated (box three) is The Watchdog’s top pick in a Mixed 4/5 over 525 metres at The Meadows tonight. And it’s easy to see why.
She has notched 13 wins from 27 starts – including a sensational 33.92sec (race record) victory in last month’s Group 2 McKenna Memorial (595m) at Sandown Park. She also contested last year’s Group 2 Laurels (515m) at Sandown Park and Group 3 SA Oaks (515m) at Angle Park.
It could be a night to remember for Greenough, who has Ashley’s Entity (Race 2, Box 4) – also The Watchdog’s main selection – engaged in a Grade 5 (525m).
A winner of five races from 12 starts, Ashley’s Entity was a finalist in last week’s Group 3 Cranbourne Classic (520m).
