THURSDAY THOUGHT – AVALANCHE

Top prospect Weblec King should reign supreme at Sandown Park tonight.

The Watchdog is anticipating an ‘avalanche’ of support for, you guessed it, Avalanche at Sandown Park tonight.

Engaged in a Grade 6 over 515 metres, Avalanche (Race 3, Box 1) is poised to continue his snowballing run of success.

Prepared at Pearcedale by Jason Thompson, Avalanche has only raced on three occasions for two wins and one third placing – all at Sandown Park. He has semaphored 29.69sec and 29.68sec victories respectively.

And punters could be drinking a toast to the Thompson-trained Hooked On Scotch (Race 4, Box 3) only 25 minutes later when he lines up in a Mixed 6/7 final (515m).

A gifted chaser, Hooked On Scotch is also one of The Watchdog’s top picks on the 12-event fixture.

Rated the ‘next big thing’, Hooked On Scotch posted an astonishing 14-length 29.09sec win last Sunday at Sandown Park. It was his second win, with three thirds, from five starts.

So it’s little wonder bettors are being encouraged to ‘take a nip’ on his chances!

Incidentally, Hooked On Scotch is a younger half-brother of champion speedster Poke The Bear, along with star performers Out Of Range and Fully Loaded who are all out of prolific producing dam Nicki Fields.
