NSW sensation Pindari Express is among the favourites to win a red-hot Group 3 St Leger Final (460m) at Warragul tomorrow at 7.39pm.
The buzz dog heading into the series having had six starts for six wins including running two track records in his home state, Pindari Express is now a $4.50 chance after running second in his heat on Tuesday.
Trainer Tracey Scruse is hoping for an improved performance from Pindari Express tomorrow from box eight.
“The boxes and the lure set up is different in Victoria compared to NSW, so hopefully Pindari Express learned a lot from his St Leger heat, which was his first run in Victoria,” Tracey said.
“He normally begins pretty well, but he completely missed the start in his heat and it was a mighty effort to finish second behind Chief’s Empire, who is a two-time Group 1 finalist.”
“He’ll need to begin better in the final because it is a brilliant field and any of the eight dogs could win. This series has been a big rise in class for him and a big learning curve,” she said.
Group 1 winner My Redeemer (David Geall), pictured, is the $4 favourite to win the St Leger despite also not winning his heat on Tuesday.
The fastest of the four heat winners was Aston Kimetto (Seona Thompson) despite coming from last, and his odds of $9 illustrates the depth of quality in the $25,000 to-the-winner race.
