Dublin Bull (pictured) and fellow Victorian Ring The Bell head into tonight’s Group 1 $107,500 Gold Cup (710m) at Albion Park as two of the most experienced group raced greyhounds over the staying journey, only to be upstaged by Queensland local Cyndie’s Magic who is aiming for five wins in a row.
It is no surprise that Cyndie’s Magic, who is set to jump from box 6, is $3.90 favourite, with Dublin Bull (box 5) currently paying $4.60 and Ring The Bell (box 8) starting at $6.50.
In the third Brisbane Gold Cup heat, Cydie’s Magic (box 6) came from last position to defeated Gerard O’Keeffe’s Ring The Bell (box 7) who led everywhere but on the line.
Last week in the heats Dublin Bull (box 7) ran down Group 1 Sandown Cup winner Bells Are Ringin (box 3), claiming victory by 0.03 lengths over Lovelace (box 8) in a time of 42.32sec.
“I was really happy he put himself in the race by chasing well at his first time on the track. I am hoping he can pick up a few lengths now that he knows the track,” trainer Jeff Britton explained.
“You never want box 5 in a group race but he does like to run in the middle of the track. The outcome all depends on whether or not he jumps out of the boxes well, because if he does he so, he is where he wants to be.”
Britton believes Cyndie’s Magic is the greyhound to beat in the Group 1 $107,500 Gold Cup, considering her form.
