Ready 2 Race bargain buy To The Galo’s is on track to capture his second country cup at Horsham on Sunday.
The zippy three-and-a-half year old sprinter, who was sold for just $6,000 at GRV’s 2014 Ready 2 Race Sales, won his way into the Horsham Cup final with a performance that surprised even his trainer Phil Smith.
“When the (number) three (Pure Titanium) landed in front I thought he (To The Galo’s) would be battling to run (better than) second or third,” said Smith, a hobby trainer living on a house block in the Melbourne suburb of Pascoe Vale South.
“Six months ago he would have been battling to run dogs down, but he’s a lot stronger to the (finish) line now. He has really improved as a (race) dog and really stepped up to the mark.”
To The Galo’s became the first Ready 2 Race purchase to win a country cup when he snared the Warragul Cup in January. He has won 24 races from 62 starts and earned $147,000 in prize money.
On Sunday he’ll get the chance to add a further $47,000 (1st), $13,350 (2nd) or $6,650 (3rd) if he runs a place in the Horsham Cup.
He opened up as the second favourite at $4.50 with TAB after drawing box two.
