Bells are ringing for Tough As Nails

Gerry O’Keeffe’s dream came true last Thursday night at Sandown Park when his 24 kilo superstar, Bells Are Ringin (pictured), gave him his first Group 1 win in the RSN Sandown Cup (Bells Are Ringin wins RSN Sandown Cup).

The $175,000 first prize from Thursday night was his biggest win, but Gerry’s eyes are now focused on a race of a much smaller nature, Tuesday nights $10,050 Warragul GRV VIC BRED Maiden Final (460m) with up and comer Tough As Nails.

“Tough As Nails has remarkable ability, he is the fastest dog I have trained. We are just waiting for him to show everyone his true talent,” Gerry explained.

Jumping from box 6 as the $2.50 favourite at 7.42pm, Tough As Nails will be vying for his third win in as many starts.

“We have high hopes for Tough As Nails despite jumping from box 6. He missed the start by a length last week but showed ability to work his way through the field. We are hoping after some work during the week his box manners will improve,” Gerry said.

Gerry isn’t the only person excited about the son of Fabregas and Great Gunns, owner Troy Tillotson has been track side for both of Tough As Nails races, cheering him across the line.

“It was great to see Tory so excited when Tough As Nails won his maiden – it was like he had just won a group 1.”
