Stewart’s Winning Litter Double

Andy and Judy Stewart had a night to remember on Saturday at The Meadows, when litter brothers Midwinter and Slick Ice (pictured with trainer Andy Stewart and wife Judy, photo credit Paul Munt) took out consecutive races.

Midwinter claimed bragging rights after he won the $17,250 Hudson Pacific Final (600m), after gaining a start as the first reserve.

“We were very happy he got a run in the final because we really didn’t want to leave Midwinter at home without his brother,” Judy explained.

“He was feeling very good during the week, so we knew he was going to be in with a good chance once he got a start.”

Midwinter jumped cleanly from the four ally and didn’t give up the lead through the 600 metre journey. Andrea Dailly finished off the placings with Dyna Maddie (box 5), Ivy Bale (box 7) and Lektra Uncut (box 2).

Slick Ice started as $2.10 favourite from box 8 in the $8,940 Free For All (525m). He used plenty of the track to claim victory over Marley Bale (box 6) by 3.03 lengths in a time of 30.25 seconds.

This is not the first time the sibling duo has won on the same night, as in December last year they both claimed victory at Ballarat.

Collectively, Midwinter and Slick Ice have had 61 starts for 24 wins and 21 minor placings, earning a staggering $206,720 in prize money.
Incidentally, the Running Double paid a handsome $20.80.
