WARRNAMBOOL: Ronray Spirit Vying for Second Warrnambool Cup

Last years’ Warrnambool Cup winner Ronray Spirit is making his return to the track in the final heat of the Warrnambool Cup tonight.

Jumping from box seven at 10.33pm, trainer Terry Reid (pictured above with Ronray Spirit) is hopeful of a repeat performance from his star chaser. Ronray Spirit’s last start at Warrnambool was his Group 2 Cup win, but Reid doesn’t think a year away from the Warrnambool track will affect his performance.

“He would have been better suited to an inside draw. It is going to be very hard for him tonight, he has Zambora Brockie on his inside along with Paddy’s Magic – he’s got a lot of hard work to do,” Terry Reid explained.

“He is only two lengths off his best and he is only getting fitter.”

Six greyhounds are backing up runs in the West at the New Cannington track including Shared Equity who finished third in the Group 1 $214,000 Perth Cup. Shared Equity heads into the second Warrnambool Cup heat with an impeccable record of four wins from five starts at Warrnambool.

The Warrnambool Cup heats are not the only feature on the cards tonight, four Warrnambool Classic Semis Finals add to the talent filled program.

Hobby trainer Jerry Maye has two greyhounds from the same litter in the separate semi finals of the Classic. Connemara Black (semi final one) won his heat last week from box three, using the inside box draw to his advantage. He has drawn box seven tonight which will prove to be a much harder task for the 37 kilo chaser.
Litter brother Macrory (semi final three) also won his heat from box six last week.
