Star Recall will be among the headline acts in Saturday night’s $145,000 Group 1 Superstayers (725m) at The Meadows on Australian Cup night.
The gifted front-running West Australian-bred greyhound, who won the 2014 Group 1 Sale Cup, had her first start beyond 650m in her heat last night, clocking 42.317sec, easily the fastest of the four heats.
“Her run was a bit of a surprise, I didn’t know what to expect even though she had very good form heading into the race. It was a nice surprise in the end; she pulled away and ran time,” trainer Jeff Britton explained.
Star Recall, who turns four in April and has 69 starts to her name (39 wins), will be chasing a $100,000 first prize on Saturday night to add to her career prize money earnings of $345,000. She is pictured above winning her heat.
“She has got to jump from box five next week. There is a lot of pace in the race and you don’t want to be knocked over early on, but you don’t know what to expect next week and you don’t know how the dogs who went over 700 metres for the first time are going to pull up,” he said.
Other Superstayers heat winners were dual Group 1 winner No Donuts (42.524sec), Ima Misha Doll (42.835sec) and Esparza (42.687sec).
