Hot Carbon Tribute: Radio’s Farewell to a ‘Champion’

The racing career of Hot Carbon may pale into insignificance when compared to some of the elite greyhounds running around today, but she’ll always be a champion in the eyes of the Hutchy Syndicate, headed by AFL identity, Craig Hutchison (pictured).

A short-course greyhound with plenty of early speed, Hot Carbon was recently retired after 48 starts, in which she netted eight wins, 10 minor placings and countless moments of joy for her 11 owners.

The Hutchy Syndicate was formed in 2013. It includes 10 winners of ‘Off The Bench’s’ Saturday morning Dr. Who radio quiz who teamed with Hutchison to purchase Hot Carbon at GRV’s 2013 Ready 2 Race Sales at Bendigo – and thus their exciting journey together began.

Hot Carbon’s retirement came about due to a drop in form in recent months, and she is now destined for a life as a much-loved pet via the Greyhound Adoption Program.

The ‘Off The Bench’ team broke the news of her retirement to her owners last week, with their love for Hot Carbon coming out in spades in a special tribute played on radio throughout Victoria last weekend (listen below). For a provincial class short-course sprinter to bring so much joy to her owners leaves little wonder as to why greyhound racing is known as ‘the people’s sport’.
