Freakish Fernando wins Golden Easter Egg

Freakish sprinter Fernando Bale ($2.10Fav) made it six straight Group 1 Golden Easter Eggs (520m) for Victoria after completing a clean sweep of the series on Saturday night.

After running the equal fastest time in the heats (29.45sec) and then the fastest time in his semi (29.34), the Andrea Dailly-trained sprinter led all the way from box 8 in the final to win in 29.48sec.

Fernando Bale (Kelsos Fusileer x Chloe Bale), pictured above winning at Wentworth Park in January, notched his 13th win from just 18 starts, and the $250,000 first prize took his career earnins up to almost $400,000.

Earlier in the night, brilliant stayer Space Star, trained by Robert Britton, had to pull out all the stops to run down fellow Victorian stayer Lady Toy on his way to collecting the $75,000 first prize in the Group 1 Association Cup (720m).

Meanwhile, Lamia Bale, also trained in Victoria by Steve Collins, won the Group 3 Ambrosoli (520m), which carried a $25,000 winner’s cheque.
