Brisbane Cup has Key Player

Beaten TAB Melbourne Cup favourite Keybow once again demonstrated his professionalism by winning a heat of the Group 1 Brisbane Cup at Albion Park on Thursday night.

Trained in Victoria by Darren McDonald, Keybow’s time of 29.81sec was the fastest among the six heats by almost two lengths, and it came six days after he ran third in the Melbourne Cup.

Keybow is enduring his sixth interstate campaign in 2014, having won the Group 1 Perth Cup in February and finishing 2nd in the Group 2 Queensland Derby in May, which has helped his prize money earnings rocket up to $403,000.

He will be joined by fellow Victorian-trained sprinter and reigning Brisbane Cup winner Kiss Me Ketut (David Burnett) in Thursday night’s final, where a $75,000 first prize is up for grabs.
