Important News Regarding the TAB Great Chase

The TAB Great Chase, Greyhound Racing Victoria’s annual community series, begins next week.

Trainers are reminded that there are a number of conditions surround this rich event, including:

– Greyhounds must be bred in Victoria
– Have had at least one but no more than five wins
– Have not changed kennels in the last 90 days
– Be nominated to race in heats at one of their three closest tracks, as specified here

Another aspect of this series trainers need to be aware of is that winning a heat does not automatically guarantee your greyhound a place in the semi-finals.

While heats are conducted at each Victorian track (with the exception of Traralgon, which is currently under construction), the number of greyhounds progressing to the semis from each track varies from track to track.

For instance, three greyhounds and one reserve will progress from Sandown, Healesville, Horsham and Warrnambool. Four greyhounds and one reserve will progress from Shepparton Ballarat, Bendigo, Cranbourne and Sale. Five greyhounds plus one reserve will progress from The Meadows and Geelong. Six greyhounds and one reserve will progress from Warragul.
