The TAB Great Chase brings together Victoria’s greyhound racing clubs, GRV, and the TAB to raise funds for community groups caring for the elderly and the intellectually and physically disabled and to give their clients a great day out at the races. First run in 2003, The Great Chase has now raised over $500,000 for local community groups throughout and metropolitan Victoria.
Every year Victoria’s greyhound racing clubs each dedicate one race meeting to local community groups through the Community Day program. The groups attending each meeting are matched with greyhounds running on the day for the opportunity to share in a $2000 prize pool. Their clients get to cheer on the greyhounds running for them, to meet racing dogs and dogs up for adoption through GRV’s Greyhound Adoption Program and to socialise and enjoy entertainment, games, lunches and gift packs.
All the groups are then invited to the TAB Great Chase Grand Final to go into the draw and be matched to one of the eight Grand Finalists with $10,000 donated to the group that draws the wining greyhound and the other seven groups each receiving $2000. The Grand Final will be held at the Great Chase Community Day on Wednesday 19th October at the Meadows Greyhound Racing Club in Melbourne from 11am.
