Hooksy – who finished third in a shock defeat in Saturday’s heat – will start from box eight against My Bro Fabio, a chaser who made the greyhound world stand up and take notice after his electrifying 29.787sec heat victory – easily the fastest during last night’s 12-race program.
My Bro Fabio will again have to navigate through an awkward draw, coming up with box seven in next Saturday’s semi-final. The two gun male chasers certainly won’t have it their own way, with the highly impressive Mepunga Hayley starting from box five after returning to her best in a 30.148 win last night. The star-studded heat also includes Group 1 National Futurity winner Rue De Khan (box four) and Peter Mosman finalist Push It (box two).
In heat two, the speedy Where’s The Surf (box two) looks hard to beat after an impressive all-the-way 30.047sec victory in last night’s heat. The son of Where’s Pedro and Nova Surf has won his last three in impressive fashion. He is part of a three-pronged attack for trainer Darren McDonald, who has young gun Eliza Blanche (box eight) engaged in heat three and powerhouse finisher Sisco Rage (box one) in the last semi-final.
Other heat winners last night included Blurred Lines (30.197), Samus Allen (30.114), Crackerjack Rose (30.477), Rue De Khan (30.151), Spring Leaf (30.099), Dyna Zod (30.223), Zipping Snoopy (30.113), Luca Neveelk (30.148) and Dyna Ostrander (30.052).
First and second placegetters in next week’s semi-finals will progress to the July 26 final, worth $100,000 to the winner. Next week will also see heats of the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship run and won, highlighted by wonder greyhound Xylia Allen.
