Paw Licking Most Popular

Superstar’s Popularity Stretches Beyond Victorian Border

Paw Licking is the People’s Choice Most Popular Greyhound for the month of March.
Each month’s group winners who are trained in Victoria are automatically included on the shortlist of greyhounds up for voting, and Paw Licking secured his place by winning the Group 2 Maitland Cup on 27 March.

Paw Licking is trained at Pearcedale by Kelvyn Greenough after being bred in the NSW town of Stratheden by Charlie Northfield, who sold the superstar as a pup to his next door neighbour Allan Lang.

“People like him so much because he’s always out in front and he always gives you a run for your money,” Northfield said.

“This whole area of greyhound people love him because he started his career here at 17 months of age winning his maiden races and so forth at our local track at Casino, and then Allan sent him to Melbourne and everyone has continued following his career closely ever since.”

“He is a much loved dog by hundreds of people from Casino all the way to Queensland, which is 150 kilometres away.”

Paw Licking will also be up for voting for the People’s Choice Most Popular Greyhound for the month of April, after winning the Bendigo Cup on Easter Sunday.

Voting to start next week.
