VIC Trainers Talk Up Egg Chances

THE INSIDE WORD FROM ENNIS, DAILLY
Victorian trainers have won the past four Golden Easter Eggs, and on Saturday night Brooke Ennis and Andrea Dailly will be looking to stretch that record to five.

Between them the pair trains the five Victorian-based greyhounds in the race, Ennis with Tonk and Warrior King and Dailly with Ollie Bale, Jordan Allen and Hawk Alone.

Ennis is particularly enthused about the chances of Tonk, who is drawn in Box 2 after winning his semi-final in 29.81sec.

“Box 2 will suit him. Buckle Up Wes (Box 1) is the one to beat, beat if Tonk can stay within a length or two of him early I think he has enough strength to apply some pressure to him,” she said.

Ironically, Ennis suspects that Tonk’s biggest drawback may be his kennelmate, Warrior King.

“I’m delighted with how Warrior King’s career is progressing, but he likes to rail and I’m a bit concerned that from Box 4 he may crash toward the rail and cause some interference to Tonk.”

“I’m just delighted to have two dogs in the race. The Easter Egg is one of the biggest races around, and I’ve never had a finalist before so it is a great thrill.”

Dailly, meanwhile, is aiming for back-to-back Golden Easter Eggs after winning the race with Grigorieva Bale last year.

She believes that Ollie Bale, who won the Group 1 Silver Chief at The Meadows in January, is her best chance.

“He’s drawn in Box 3 and I’m pretty happy about that. He is my main chance, while Jordan Allen is a talented greyhound and could surprise a few people. Our other finalist, Hawk Alone (Box 8), is a very good dog and is strong at the finish of his races, but he will need a lot of luck from Box 8,” Dailly said.

Andrea Dailly, who won the Golden Easter Egg last year with Grigorieva Bale, has three greyhounds in the final including Ollie Bale and Hawk Alone, who have both won at Group 1 level before.

“Ollie Bale is our best chance. He’s drawn in Box 3 which will suit him quite well,” Dailly said.
