RECORD REMAINS INTACT

As expected, super sprinter Black Magic Opal was a convincing winner at Shepparton last night winning by 10 lengths.

However, the 450m track record remains intact, with the son of Magic Sprite and Awesome Opal recording a time of 25.13sec.

Slater and Cape Hawke share the record at 24.82sec, a time that has stood for almost seven years.

Black Magic Opal has now won eight on end, while his career record stands at 34 starts for 27 wins and four placings.

In recent weeks he has broken the Geelong 460m track record (twice) as well as Warrnambool’s 450m track record and set a new first sectional record at Sandown Park for the 515m distance.

Incidentally, Black Magic Opal ran the fastest time of the night by a length, with the promising Glenn Rounds-trained 22 month youngster Waymore
