Winning the Million Dollar Chase changed everything for young trainers Josh Formosa and Korie Heinrich.

But it is what the Anakie-based duo have done since pocketing one of the sport’s richest prizes that could shape their future for years to come.

Rather than cashing out, Formosa and Heinrich have reinvested almost $500,000 back into greyhound racing, buying pups and promising young chasers. The approach is already paying off.

Their recruits delivered the Group 3 Launching Pad at Sandown Park earlier this year and now the pair have three runners chasing Group 1 glory in Saturday night’s $150,000 Maturity Classic (525m) at The Meadows.

Repellent (2), Indy Melmen (3) and Blink And Miss (6) all line up in a star-studded final headed by boom youngster Wrongly Accused.

“Wrongly Accused is the real deal and, as a racing fan, I love seeing dogs like him go around,” Formosa said.

Formosa rates Indy Melmen as the kennel’s leading chance after his impressive heat performance.

“Melmen is probably our best chance from the draw, but I’m really happy with where Repellent has landed, especially after his tough heat win,” he said.

“Even if Repellent makes a mistake early, he’s on the fence and I think that gives him every opportunity.”

Blink And Miss is another the pair have high hopes for despite drawing box six.

“He’s the ultimate professional,” Formosa said.

“If he can find the right run, he’ll make his presence felt. I’m excited to see what he can do from out there.”

The kennel will also be represented by In Moderation in Saturday night’s Group 3 Fireball (730m), where the youngster faces the daunting task of taking on champion stayer Magpie Hector.

“We’ve got our dogs as good as we can,” Formosa said.

“Now we get to enjoy the night and watch some outstanding young greyhounds compete.”
