GRV welcomes appointment of new Chair

Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) has today welcomed the appointment of Tom Salom as its new Chair.

Salom, a former News Corp media executive with more than 20 years’ experience, was appointed by Minister for Racing, Anthony Carbines for a period of three years. Salom will commence as Chair on 29 September 2025, succeeding outgoing chair Peita Duncan.

“Tom Salom is a highly respected leader, and he will bring extensive sporting and corporate expertise to the role of the Chair,” Minister Carbines said. “I wish him all the best at Greyhound Racing Victoria following Peita Duncan’s departure.”

“And I want to thank Peita Duncan for her leadership and dedication to the board for over ten years. She’s been a passionate advocate for the industry and supporter of the thousands of Victorians involved in the sport – she will be missed.”

In his most recent role as News Corp Australia’s Commercial Director and Managing Editor, Salom oversaw national sporting media partnerships and contracts with the AFL, Cricket Australia, Tennis Australia and Racing Victoria.

He was also accountable for the commercial strategy, legal and compliance policies and budgets of News Corp’s national content networks and major mastheads, including the Herald Sun, Geelong Advertiser and Hobart Mercury.

Prior to that, he was News Corp’s Editorial Business Manager – Victoria, following a 15-year career as a journalist, managing editor and strategic partnerships director.

“I’m excited and honoured to be appointed to lead GRV at a time when I believe the industry is positioned for growth both on and off the track,” Salom said.

“I’ll be drawing on my commercial and media experience and networks to broaden the sport’s audience and grow engagement with existing and future participants and fans of greyhound racing.

“GRV is in a very strong position thanks largely to the dedication of outgoing chair Peita Duncan and I’ll be working hard to ensure that success is continued.”

Salom currently sits on the Board of the Royal Children’s Hospital’s Foundation Growth Committee, and is also a non-executive director with the Australian National Veterans Arts Museum and the Emerald and District Mitre 10 Co-op.

He has also chaired major events including the Jayco Herald Sun Tour and the Herald Sun/Transurban Run for the Kids.
