Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV), the Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club (TGRC) and the Sale & District Greyhound Racing Club (SGRC) are pleased to be able to provide an update on its track redevelopment.
Contractors for the project have been appointed following an extensive tender process.
Several options for the redevelopment were extensively researched with a focus on improved maintenance, racing and trialling opportunities, as well as club sustainability.
The works, driven by the club (under the administration of the SDGRC) with the support of GRV, have commenced, with aims to have the track ready for trialling and racing in early 2026.
The new track is a one-turn design, in similar shape to Sale, with racing distances of 350m, 425m and 570m and a trial only start of 280m for education purposes.
Traralgon has not hosted racing since July 2024, but the imminent return to racing will be a welcome boost for Gippsland’s participant base.
“We are pleased to see the Traralgon redevelopment commencing and with a relatively short build. If the weather can be kind, we will see trialling and racing return to Glenview Park early in the new year,” SGRC general manager Peter Johnston said.
“The track design and distances complement what we have at Sale, which is proving popular, and I am confident the more traditional layout will be both popular among participants, servicing the needs of the greyhounds, as well as provide the club with a sustainable operating model.”
GRV would like to congratulate the club and its working party on all the hard work that has gone into the project and providing a pathway for a return to racing at Traralgon.
We look forward to providing progress updates in due course.
