Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) and the Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club (CGRC) are pleased to be able to provide the update on Cranbourne’s track redevelopment.
Contractors for the project have been appointed following an extensive tender process which proved very competitive.
Works for the redevelopment, to be co-funded by government, GRV and the club, will commence in August, with aims to have the track ready for trialling in July/August 2026 and a return to racing soon after.
The new track will feature main racing distances of 330m, 420m and 480m, with provisions for a future 650m start.
Cranbourne has not hosted racing since January 2022, but a return to racing is now well in sight.
“We’re pleased to see the Cranbourne redevelopment advancing, with works scheduled to commence in August,” CGRC chief executive Andrew Fennell said.
“This is a major milestone for the industry and a welcome development for participants who have long awaited the track’s rebuild.
“The project is expected to contribute an estimated $34 million in additional total expenditure and deliver a $23 million boost in value-added economic impact over the next five years.”
GRV would like to congratulate the club and its working party for all the hard work that has gone into pursuing a return to racing, and GRV once again thanks the Victorian government for supporting this project.
We look forward to providing progress updates in due course.
