Tips at The Meadows on Cox Plate day

It’s not the deepest card of all time at The Meadows however there will still be 12 winners – after a big afternoon at Fleminging with the running of the Cox Plate.

Tonight’s caller Dan Hibberd likes a couple.
Race 4, Mepunga Phantom (5)
Race 7, Stidham Arizona (5)

And George Farrugia’s set via yesterday’s episode of Grey Areas.
Race 1, High Voltage (5)
Race 8, Like A Rock (6)
Race 9, Croydon (1)

And my lens on the card.

BEST
Race 12, Lakeview Cindy (8)
She’s better than what her recent form suggests and this field is softer than what she’s been against recently. Scott Sigma (6) will lead this race but I’m hoping Cindy can settle on her back and go past her late in the race. She’s no superstar but this looks a good opportunity to snag a win on the stage at The Meadows.

NEXT BEST
Race 5, Paw Maud (1)
She’s got limited form over this distance but I sense she’s suited to it. She’s begun well in recent runs over lesser distances, then taken over mid-race, then she’s lifted late. She seems a bit of a one pacer who will keep punching. She needs to be up front early and I expect her to be.

VALUE
Race 8, Paw Gertrude (3)
She’s got a stack of early speed and will go forward in this. She’s highly vulnerable late but her finest work will give her a big chance to finish on the podium. Like A Rock (6) is a machine and the clear danger but mustn’t make a mistake from the draw.

WORTH THE RISK/TAKE ON
Race 9, Croydon (1)
I found it hard to find a decent lay tonight but there’s got to be some risk attached to this guy at $1.60. There’s a fair amount of speed in this race that could make things really awkward. Despite his talent he’s only won one of his six races at The Meadows. At such a short price there’s not a lot on the line.
